SOUTH PIKE BAY

My Mama’s family has been camping at South Pike Bay since Mama was a cute little tyke of 3. Mom posted a pic of me as a cute little puppy of 3 months. (One of my rescuers, Meghan, is holding me).

South Pike Bay is primitive camping, with 2 stinky huts & a water pump. Moms has a peculiar look when she comes outa the stinky house. I don’t know if it is because of the stink or that she holds her breath for so long. Luckily I can pee in the bushes; sometimes I think Mom is envious.

All of mom’s family shows up around the same time each year to eat, drink, boat, motorcycle & stay up late talking big around the campfire; basically creating havoc on their innards. It seems like all the family groups have a dog or 2. That causes my nerves to go whack! I try to be a friendly pup but what can I do when 1 dog has anxiety if I get too close, another cannot get my dander on her cuz her owner is allergic, 1 is pea-sized & I’m afraid my paw might squash her. I’m surrounded by all these 4-legged potential playmates, yet I’m tied in a corner & told to be quiet.

I was feeling neglected until the 2-legged came commenting on my large, screened kennel. How amazed they are that I not only stay in the kayak but quietly sit on the beach while Mom tries her darnedest to gracefully extract herself from the kayak.

I’m also the only mutt who got to go on the stand-up board. I was liking the stand-up board, (Moms stands, I lay down), better than the kayak until we were out in the deep water & Moms tells me to get off! What? She even tried to use some paddle encouragement to get me off the board. What is wrong with that woman? At 1st she acts like the world will come to an end if I jump outa the kayak, then she’s frustrated she can’t dump me off the paddleboard. Humm, maybe she’s the cause of the nerve whack, not the other dogs. Luckily, I’m bigger & stronger, so I stayed put on the board, thank you very much.

One of my favorite activities is getting all hot & sweaty running alongside Sweet Pea & as we get back to camp, I just run right into the lake. I don’t pass go & I don’t collect $200.00, just splash straight into the water where I wallow until Mom says enough.

It is nap time so I’m off to Zzzz land,

Luv, Otis
